WEKA’s timely transition of the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED)

The Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) has undergone a substantial harmonisation with the New Legislative Framework (NLF). With deadline 19th July 2016 the new Directive 2014/68/EU will come into force.

There is neither a “transition period” nor a “period of overlapping” of Directives 97/23 /EC and 2014/68/EU. Before 19th July 2016 all the EC declarations of conformity for WEKA products placed into the European Union (EU) market must be in line with the Directive 97/23/EC. From 19th July 2016 the EU declarations of conformity and certificates must be in accordance to the new Directive 2014/68/EU.

In general there is no technical change of any product provided by WEKA. The consequences are merely to be found in editorial modifications:

– 97/23/EC is changed to 2014/68/EU
– Art. 3.3 in the PED becomes Art. 4.3

All WEKA products subject to the PED must be clearly marked with the stipulations of the new directive. On the type label of our level gauges this marking will be found accordingly.

During the transition period the WEKA EU declarations of conformity are available for download on their website www.weka-ag.ch and indicate the following: “The object described above is in conformity with the relevant Union Harmonisation Legislation: Directive 97/23/EC (until 18th July 2016) and Directive 2014/68/EU (from 19th July 2016)”.

The objective is to provide the above information correctly and on time in order to avoid any misunderstandings or mistakes. The above information is solely of general interest to WEKA related products only and does not constitute any legal advice.
