Flaremaster’s modular design, in its fully realised form, provides a dual redundancy, supervisory system designed to optimise the performance of the current generation of ultrasonic flare gas meters.

FlareMaster’s Enhanced Density Module (EDM), which allows the operator to provide the Flare Gas Meter with full gas stream density inputs in order to negate the effects of density distorting gas compositions, has already proved highly effective in reducing measurement uncertainty. For one North Sea Oil & Gas operator, this has already led to significant improvements in the accuracy of Green House Gas emissions reporting and consequent Tier 3 compliance.

Several operators have also implemented FlareMaster DataFlow, a sophisticated data gathering and analysis tool which facilitates remote interrogation and parallel monitoring of multiple FGMs from a safe area. The user is provided with a real time display of process data, including mass and standard volume flow, velocity, process temperature and pressure. Historical records of measured and calculated data are easily accessible.

Finally, ABLE will shortly be commissioning FlareMaster System Option 1 for a high-profile North Sea operator.  System Option 1, which overlays the EDM/DataFlow software package, equips the FlareMaster with a data repair capability for when process challenges such as transducer contamination compromise the measurement. It also provides dynamic gas compressibility adjustment and an extended velocity range.

FlareMaster is designed to sustain measurement in the face of those process upsets that defeat all ultrasonic FGMs.

ABLE has recently participated in several exhibitions which served to illustrate the diversity of the industries we serve and the products we supply to them.

International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) UK Affiliate Annual Conference
On the 22nd November, ABLE took part in a table top event at the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) UK Affiliate Annual Conference at the De Vere Beaumont Estate in Old Windsor. Central to the equipment displayed on the ABLE stand was the Canty Process Vision Technology which uses a variety of camera & LED light combinations for centrifuge control, filter dryer optimisation, foam detection and liquid particle analysis. In addition to the above, fully working examples of ABLE’s AZI Ametek Loss on Drying (LOD) and moisture specific analysers were exhibited. These are used throughout the pharmaceutical and biotech industries for applications such as quality control of tablet and lyophilised drug manufacture.

On the 22nd November, ABLE took part in a table top event at the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) UK Affiliate Annual Conference at the De Vere Beaumont Estate in Old Windsor.

Institute of Measurement and Control / BP Sunbury
On the 28th November, ABLE exhibited at an Institute of Measurement and Control organised mini-exhibition at BP’s offices in Sunbury. ABLE again displayed a Canty InFlow Particle Analysis System, similar to the one that BP’s Drilling Fluids Technology Group are evaluating for LCM efficiency measurements. Also on the stand were examples of the McCrometer V-Cone Flow Meter and Fluenta’s FGM160-II Ultrasonic Flare Gas Meter, both products for which ABLE have sole UK sales & service representation. The exhibition was well supported with BP senior management encouraging as many members of their engineering teams as possible to attend.

On the 28th November, ABLE exhibited at an Institute of Measurement and Control organised mini-exhibition at BP’s offices in Sunbury. The event was arranged so that AWE staff, engineers and buyers alike could get to know those vendors sharing a postcode with them. This provided ABLE, as suppliers of trace moisture and level measurement products to AWE for over 30 years, to raise awareness as to the large diversity of process measurement equipment available in their current portfolio.

AWE were excellent hosts ensuring an excellent footfall and facilitating several one to one “Meet the buyers” sessions.

ABLE Instruments & Controls has partnered with leading Coriolis manufacturer Rheonik to develop the MudMaster “MudIn™” Mass Flow Meter. The MudIn™ interfaces with ABLE’s “MudOut™” Drilling Mud Outflow Analyser to form the MudMaster™ Mass Balance Flow Metering System.

In order to achieve maximum accuracy, the mass flow measurement of the mud in the inlet flow line must be made at the prevailing pressure downstream of the mud pump. The MudIn’s unique 5000psi pressure rating facilitates installation at this position in the mud loop. Furthermore, the mass flow measurement is fully pressure compensated for optimum performance.

Not only does the MudIn™ provide real-time mud mass flow, pressure and temperature measurements to the MudMaster PLC but, in keeping with the rest of the ABLE Master range, it applies a high level of processing capacity and an enhanced layer of analytics to the data being generated by the Coriolis sensors. The MudIn™ is therefore able to harvest the myriad signals routinely produced by the sensors that aren’t normally visible or accessible to a conventional, associated flow computer. Consequently, in addition to mass flow, temperature and pressure, the MudIn™ is also able to derive and output signal signatures for pattern analysis homogeneity, fluctuations and damping/viscosity.

In summary, ABLE’s fully augmented MudMaster™ Drilling Mud Outflow Analyser system now incorporates the high pressure MudIn™ Mass Flow Analyser on the inlet line for accurate, real time mass balance measurements with automatic time delay compensation for well depth.

The meeting was held over a convivial lunch and the Institute were given a presentation regarding the latest developments and product innovations at ABLE, and a full, practical demonstration of the new training rig, including Rockwell’s integrated PlantPAx Distributed Control System. In addition to the wide diversity of process control instrumentation, ABLE’s Master Series of products provoked much discussion, particularly the acclaimed SlugMaster Intelligent Ultrasonic Flow Meter and the flagship MudMaster Mud Drilling Analyser.

ABLE are a long standing companion member of the IMC and regular participants in both the Institute’s formal and recreational events. ABLE will be working closely with the IMC to gain the latter’s official approval for its soon to be published training course program.

ABLE’s FlareMaster is intended to enhance the performance of the current generation of ultrasonic flare gas meters, ensuring that the flow measurement is reliable and repeatable under all process conditions regardless of extremes (both high and low) in flow velocities, significant diversity in gas densities and transducer contamination.

The enhancement is also designed to increase the maximum measurable flow velocity to higher than that achievable with any other flare meter technology, approaching 1000m/sec (Mach 3). In essence, FlareMaster is aimed at adding value to existing flare meter installations.

 

FlareMaster™ is a modular system comprising:

Module I – Analytics & Gas Density Composition
The FlareMaster is a modular design and Module I endows the flare gas flow meter with a full data acquisition and analytics package, driven by a Rockwell Automation Allen-Bradley CompactLogix Controller, providing full gas density composition inputs to the meter. This function negates the effects of certain density distorting gas combinations, typically reducing measurement uncertainty from +/- 5% to +/- 1% and preventing the over-reporting of Green House Gas emissions and avoidance of the associated financial penalties. Module I is proven, tested and available for purchase.

A wireless, hazardous area approved (Zone 1) interface with the module is supplied in the form of an Aegex10™ ATEX tablet, provided by ABLE’s partner company Aegex Technologies. The Aegex 10™ intrinsically safe tablet allows personnel to monitor data and analytics in real time.

Module I facilitates enhanced performance from the flare meter and furnishes the operator with a stepping-stone to the fully redundant FlareMaster Management System.

Module II
The addition of Module II, which consists of a supplementary, non-invasive sensing array, equips the flare gas meter with the complete FlareMaster Dual Redundancy Supervisory System. The installation of Module II can be fully implemented on a live flare without shutdown and causes minimal mechanical disruption.

On a fundamental level the fully implemented FlareMaster will offer dual redundant protection against loss of measurement under all process conditions. It’s generally accepted that this is a failing common to all standard flare gas meters, particularly under extreme blowdown situations. FlareMaster is suitable for operation in both high and low temperature applications, and flow velocities up to 1000m/sec. FlareMaster will also continue to deliver accurate and repeatable performance during the gas stratification episodes associated with low flow.

The FPI Mag is a Full Profile Insertion flow meter combining the ease of hot tap installation with an accurate measurement of the full flow profile. This is accomplished with a unique operating principle featuring multiple electrodes across the entire pipe diameter. This allows the FPI Mag to deliver accuracy unmatched by other insertion mag meters and rivals the performance of a full-bore mag meter.

The FPI Mag Flow Meter from McCrometer installs without interrupting service, de-watering lines, cutting pipe or welding flanges.
