One of the most critical factors in optimisation of the cell performance of lithium-ion batteries is the particle size distribution of the active cathode material. Small particles with narrow distribution lend themselves well to better cell performance than larger, coarser particles. However, if the active material particle size is too small, it can have a negative effect on the cell performance.
