A major UK based Formula 1 Racing Team have recently upgraded the fuel delivery mechanism on their engine test beds. Part of that upgrade focused on the accuracy of the fuel delivery system and how it could be improved. To that end, the team’s development & test engineers engaged ABLE for their flow metering expertise. It was recognised that the precision required and subsequent low margin for error dictated the use of a Coriolis Mass Flow Meter.
A competitor’s product, which had previously been considered, was found to have a meter drive frequency of 120Hz, which interferes with sensitive equipment on the engine test bed. ABLE put forward the Rheonik Coriolis, with its patented Omega tube design and consequent increased signal to noise ratio. The theoretical sizing calculations demonstrated the enhanced accuracy of the Gold Line Sensor option and the predicted pressure drop. The Rheonik has a drive frequency of 330Hz and is able to accommodate the high temperatures and pressures associated with the application. Delivery time was critical and another factor which precluded our competitor; ABLE were able to procure a special concession from the factory and supplied the meter within a week of receiving the order.
