South West Water (SWW) is a British private utility company responsible for the water supply and waste water treatment services throughout Devon and Cornwall and in small areas of Dorset and Somerset. South West Water was created in 1989 with the privatisation of the water industry. The main source of the water supplied by South West Water is the twenty reservoirs they own, with 90% of the water coming from reservoirs and rivers.
The availability of fresh water supply is a growing worldwide concern. People are more informed about the need to conserve. South West Water echo these concerns in their drive to reduce non-revenue water loss. A considerable source of potable water leakage is through damaged piping in the municipal water system.
To this end, SWW looked to replace the faulty mag flow meters originally supplied by one of our competitors and approached ABLE with regard to supplying McCrometer’s innovative FPI (Full Profile Insertion) Mag Meter for all three locations. ABLE also supplied new valves for the installations. Ease and low cost of installation together with equivalent specification to a conventional full bore mag meter, were key factors in moving SWW over to the FPI. Two of the meters supplied are bidirectional to facilitate the differing levels of rainfall and water demand between Summer & Winter. SWW have several other sites in mind for the FPI, but these will require the imminent IP68 rated version of the transmitter. Watch this space.
